Patna, Sept. 10 -- The Patna High Court today acquitted a man, Ranjit Kumar Jha, in a 2000 murder case, citing it as "a case of no evidence". The man, who is poor and suffering from mental health issues, has spent nearly 21 years in custody.
The high court set aside the man's conviction by a Fast Track Court in Samastipur.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Justice Kumar Manish passed the order, copy of which was uploaded today.
Jha was convicted in 2009 for the murder of one Pawan Kumar Jha. The prosecution had alleged that he shot the victim following a dispute over the theft of Rs 3,300.
