Yamal eyes Ballon d'Or award
MADRID, Sept. 8 -- FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal on Tuesday threw his hat into the ring to be a candidate for the Ballon d'Or award for the best footballer in the world which is given out at the end of October.
Speaking to the press ahead of Barcelona's Champions League debut against Feyenoord on Wednesday night, the 19-year-old was asked about his chances of winning the award which is given by France Football magazine, a day after Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe also told the press this was a good year for him to win.
Yamal won La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain, but said winning the prestigious award "doesn't depend on me, it depends on you (the press)."
