Dhaka, June 26 -- Police arrested a local leader of Awami League, which faces a ban on its activities, in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Thursday evening.

The arrestee was identified as Md Imran Hossain, 35, president of the Katasur West unit of Awami League under ward No. 33 of Dhaka North City Corporation.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Mohammadpur Police Station conducted the raid on the area around 7:00pm and arrested Imran, police said.

He was later produced before a Dhaka court, according to a press release issued by the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
