Khagrachari, June 26 -- A local leader of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was detained in an injured condition after an exchange of gunfire between armed members of the UPDF and a faction of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) in a remote area of Khagrachhari's Guimara upazila on Friday morning.

The detained man was identified as Jhimit Chakma, who was described by police and the UPDF as the organisation's Guimara upazila organiser.

The gunfight reportedly took place around 7 am in the remote Paining Para area of Hafchhari union.
