Lalmonirhat, March 12 -- An early morning storm damaged more than 50 houses and shops in Lalmonirhat on Thursday, leaving several families in distress and disrupting electricity in parts of the area.

The storm hit the Teesta char region under Mahishkhocha union of Aditmari upazila before dawn.

Residents said the sky suddenly turned dark with thick clouds while they were having sehri. Within minutes, strong winds accompanied by rain swept through the area and the storm lasted for around 10 minutes.

At least half a hundred tin-shed and mud-built houses, along with several roadside shops, were badly damaged by the strong winds.
