Satkhira, Aug. 30 -- year-old girl drowned after falling into a pond in Tala upazila of Satkhira district on Sunday morning.

The deceased, Maria, was the daughter of Sheikh Riazul Islam of Baruihati village in the upazila.

According to locals, the child fell into the pond next to her house around 8:00am while frolicking.

Following a frantic search, relatives rescued her from the water body and rushed her to the Tala Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead, said Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station Shahidul Islam.
