Dhaka, Aug. 22 -- Three members of a family suffered severe burn injuries after an electrical transformer exploded near their home in the capital's Gendaria area early Friday.

The incident occurred around 2:00 am at a house on Haricharan Road in Gendaria.

The victims were identified as Moslem Uddin, 65, his wife, Salma Begum, 50, and their son Mejbah Uddin, 28.

Dr. Sultan Mahmud Sikder, acting resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said that the burns suffered by the members of the family were of a very serious nature.

The young son of the victim family was the most unfortunate for his entire body was burnt, followed by his father suffering 90 percent burns and his wife 55 percent.
