Dhaka, Oct. 27 -- Speakers at a rally in Dhaka on Monday urged the government to take immediate action against lead pollution, calling illegal lead-acid battery recycling a "silent public health crisis" that threatens millions of children and the nation's future.

They stressed the need for environmentally sound management (ESM) and strict regulation of unauthorised recycling of used lead-acid batteries (ULAB) to prevent health risks and environmental damage.
