Sirajganj, Sept. 18 -- At least 50 people were injured in a violent clash between two rival factions of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal (JCD) in Sirajganj district town on Friday.

Following the incident, the central committee of Jatiotabadi Chatradal dissolved its Sirajganj district unit committee in the evening.

According to police, tension had been brewing for several days between residents of the town's Purbapar and Paschimpar neighborhoods over establishing dominance in the area. The situation escalated on Friday morning when supporters of one faction chanted provocative slogans targeting their rivals near the Borpul Paschimpar area.
