, Oct. 26 -- Members of Coast Guard in a drive arrested the alleged ringleader of a notorious robber gang 'Ranga Bahini' from Kalabogi in the Sundarbans on Sunday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Nazrul Sheikh, 48 of Rampal upazila in Bagerhat district.

Tipped off, a team of Coast Guard conducted a drive in the area and arrested Nazrul along with two guns and six rounds of cartridges, said media officer of Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque.

However, the other members of the gang managed to flee the scene, sensing presence of the Coast Guard members.

Nazrul had long been involved in robbery, extortion and realising ransom after abducting fishermen from the Sundarbans, he said.
