Dhaka, July 17 -- Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said Bangladesh's readymade garment (RMG) industry has become the country's largest economic pillar and can serve as the driving force for its future progress.

He made the remarks while addressing the BAGMA Annual Programme-2026 as the chief guest at a city hotel in the capital.

The theme of this year's conference was "RMG 360 Degree: Challenge and Opportunity."

Fakhrul said the country's RMG sector began as a labour-intensive industry aimed at creating employment opportunities for a large number of people.
