Dhaka, Aug. 17 -- Bangladesh received US$ 1.788 billion in remittances during the first 16 days of August, registering a sharp 41.4 percent growth compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the latest data released by Bangladesh Bank on Monday, remittance inflows stood at $1.264 billion during the corresponding period (August 1-16) last year.

In the four days between August 13 and August 16 alone, expatriate workers remitted $289 million into the country through formal banking channels.

The strong momentum in August further consolidated cumulative remittance earnings for the current fiscal year.
