Dhaka, Oct. 12 -- Police on Sunday noon used water cannon, sound grenades and baton-charges to disperse a section of demonstrating teachers in front of the National Press Club in the capital.
Several demonstrating teachers were detained during the police action but were later released, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam.
The teachers, under the banner of "MPO-vukto Shikkha Jatiyakoron Prottashi Jote", began a sit-in in front of the Press Club from 8am to press home their three-point demand, which includes a 20 percent house rent allowance on their basic salary.
