Dhaka, Sept. 24 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to address the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today (Thursday).

He will deliver the speech in Bangla at 5:00pm local time (3:00am Bangladesh time on Friday), Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin said at a briefing in New York on Wednesday.

This will be Tarique Rahman's first address to the UN General Assembly since becoming prime minister on February 17 after the BNP won the 13th parliamentary elections with an outright majority.

Mahdi said his address will mark a new chapter as he follows in the footsteps of his father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and mother, late Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who also addressed the UNGA earlier.
