, Oct. 8 -- Eight Bangladeshi citizens were killed in a tragic road accident in Oman on Wednesday.

Seven of the victims were residents of Sarikait Union in Swandip upazila, Chattogram.

The accident occurred around 3:20 pm local time (5:20 pm Bangladesh time) in Duqm Sidra area.

Ten of the eleven passengers in the vehicle died on the spot.

Eyewitness Sajib Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi living in Oman, said, "The victims worked as fishermen. They were returning from the sea after fishing when a speeding vehicle caused the accident."

Another expatriate, Shipon, confirmed that the bodies were taken to Duqm Hospital morgue.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Oman has started the process to bring the bodies back home.
