Dhaka, Aug. 20 -- Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Dr Col (retd) Oli Ahmad Bir Bikram on Thursday congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on being elected as the 23rd president of Bangladesh.

In his congratulatory message, Oli Ahmad, the presidential candidate of the 11-party alliance, expressed hope that the newly elected president would discharge his responsibilities with firmness and efficiency as the guardian of the state and Constitution and protect independence, democracy and justice.

He also wished Mirza Fakhrul good health and long life.
