Dhaka, April 1 -- Bangladesh Navy personnel have rescued 15 fishermen and a trawler that had been adrift in the Bay of Bengal for four days after its engine failed.

On the afternoon of March 31, during routine patrols, a Navy team spotted the trawler about six nautical miles west of St. Martin's Lighthouse.

The team immediately reached the vessel and rescued both the trawler and its crew, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The fishermen told rescuers that the trawler's engine broke down on March 27, leaving them stranded at sea.

They faced shortages of food and clean water and endured significant hardship before the Navy arrived.
