Dhaka, June 8 -- Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir on Monday said the government has undertaken a series of initiatives to strengthen the Bangladesh Competition Commission and the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) to break the monopolistic dominance of large corporate groups and safeguard the interests of small and medium businesses.

He disclosed the measures in Parliament while responding to a question from opposition MP M Nurul Islam regarding the government's efforts to ensure fair competition in the market and protect small traders.
