, Aug. 31 -- A modern slaughterhouse in the city's Hazaribagh area, under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), formally started operations on Monday.

DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam inaugurated the facility at a ceremony held in the morning.

Speaking at the programme, he said the modern slaughterhouse is an important milestone in the DSCC's continued efforts to protect public health.

"The facility examines animals by livestock experts or veterinary surgeons before slaughter and processes meat automatically in a hygienic and sterilised environment without direct hand contact. This will ensure that people get safe and contamination-free meat," he said.
