Jhenaidah, Aug. 23 -- A mentally challenged man was hacked and beaten to death allegedly by his uncle and cousin in Kotchandpur upazila on Sunday morning, a day after a suspected cattle thief died in a mob beating in the district.

The deceased was identified as Tabibor Rahman, 45, a farmer and resident of Mallikpur village under Dora union in the upazila.

Locals said he had long been known in the area as a mentally handicapped person.

According to local ward member Md Sobusur Rahman and neighbour Ziaur Rahman, Tabibor struck his aunt with a stick while she was sweeping the courtyard of her house in the morning. They said the incident appeared to be related to his mental health condition.
