, Sept. 2 -- A Rangpur court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death and two others to life imprisonment for killing journalist Mashiur Rahman alias Utshya Rahman in 2015.

Rangpur District and Sessions Judge Mashiur Rahman handed down the punishment.

The condemned convict is Rubel alias Hekram, while the two convicts sentenced to life imprisonment are Alin and Shubho Kumar. All three were tried in absentia.

The court also acquitted three people including Johiron Akter Jui, an alleged drug peddler and the alleged mastermind of the killing, as the charges brought against them could not be proved.
