Nilphamari, Sept. 16 -- A tribunal on Wednesday sentenced a 56-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a second-grade schoolgirl in Saidpur upazila in 2025.

The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default of which, he will have to serve an additional term of imprisonment.

The convict is Mokhsed Ali Pramanik of Dakkhin Sonakhuli Tahshildar Para village of the upazila.

Judge Masud Karim of the Children Repression Prevention Tribunal and Senior District and Sessions Judge of Nilphamari delivered the verdict in the afternoon.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on August 29, 2025, when the girl was playing with Mokhsed's granddaughter in the yard of his house.
