, March 11 -- A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced a man to six months in jail in a case filed over killing his neighbour's pet cat in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area.

The convict, Akbar Hossain Shiblu, was tried in absentia.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Biruni Mir handed down the judgment.

The court also fined Shiblu Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one month more in jail.

The court also issued a warrant for his arrest.
