Savar, June 17 -- Police have arrested the principal of a madrasa in Savar following a case filed over the alleged sexual assault of a student at the institution.

The case was filed against Maulana Golam Rabbani, principal of Shamsul Ulum Khadimul Islam Madrasa in the Tetuljhora area, under Section 9 (1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Savar Model Police Station on Tuesday night.

According to police, the case was lodged based on a complaint filed by the victim's family.

Following the filing of the case, police conducted a drive and arrested the accused principal from the Tetuljhora area.
