, Oct. 26 -- The High Court on Sunday issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque should not be granted bail in five cases including Jubo Dal activist Abdul Kaiyum Ahad murder case.

The HC bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Sagir Hossain issued the rule after hearing a petition filed by the former Chief Justice.

Senior Advocate Mansurul Haque Chowdhury stood for the former CJ while Attorney General Md Khairuzzaman represented the state.

Barrister M Sarwar Hossain also represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The HC also made ACC and state counsel respondents to the rule.
