Dhaka, Oct. 20 -- The government plans to reduce passport issuance fees for Bangladeshi expatriates living abroad, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday.

The announcement came following a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Secretariat.

"We always call them [expats] remittance warriors, but they often do not receive the respect they deserve. In many places, the service is not up to the mark," said the adviser.

Jahangir Alam said the authorities will no longer charge extra fees from remittance warriors. "We will standardise the passport fees."
