Dhaka, Oct. 14 -- A government committee on Tuesday approved proposals for procuring around 1.30 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser and 15,000 metric tonnes of sugar to meet the country's growing demand.

The approvals came from a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held virtually with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

According to Cabinet Division officials, following a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the government will procure 15,000 metric tonnes of sugarcane white sugar from the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) under the local Direct Procurement Method (DPM) at a cost of about Tk 173.37 crore. The price per kilogram of sugar has been fixed at Tk 115.58.
