, Sept. 27 -- Police arrested four members of an alleged theft gang from different parts of Faridpur district in connection with the theft of valuables from a Kali temple in Faridpur district town on Sunday.

The identities of the arrestees could not be known immediately.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted drives in Alfadanga and Boalmari upazilas of the district and arrested them, said Shahrier Mohammad Miazi, superintendent of Faridpur Police, while speaking at a press briefing at noon.

Following interrogation, police also recovered a 20-kg touchstone idol of Hindu goddesses Kali, five bhoris of gold ornaments, 30 bhoris of silver ornaments and six brass idols worth around Tk 1 crore, he said.
