Dhaka, July 9 -- Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman will pay an official visit to New York from July 10 to 29 as part of a series of preparatory engagements ahead of assuming the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr Khalilur Rahman was elected President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 81st session on June 2, defeating Cyprus in what Dhaka described as a "historic and landmark" victory.

He is likely to depart New York for Dhaka on July 30, a senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told UNB, noting that there are some preparatory engagements before the next session.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 81) will open on September 8, 2026.
