, March 15 -- A farmer was killed allegedly by his son following a dispute over a motorcycle in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Akkas Ali, 57, hailing from Bafalgari village under Punot union in the upazila.

According to police and local sources, Akkas Ali's son Golap Hossain, 29, had long been demanding that his father buy him a motorcycle with money earned from selling potatoes grown on their land.

However, Akkas reportedly refused to meet the demand.

An argument broke out between the father and son shortly before iftar on Saturday.

At one stage, Golap allegedly attacked his father with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons including a knife and a machete, leaving him injured.
