Tangail, Sept. 9 -- VDP was hacked to death by unidentified criminals in Basail upazila of Tangail on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Hanif Khan, 37, son of late freedom fighter Baktar Ali Khan of Habla Uttar Para in the upazila.

Police and locals said Hanif was returning home from Bilpara Bazar around 9 pm when some unidentified people attacked him with sharp weapons and fled, leaving him critically injured.

Locals later took him to Tangail Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

ASI Atikur Rahman, in-charge of the hospital police outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue, and legal proceedings are underway.
