Chandpur, Oct. 24 -- Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, former lawmaker from Chandpur-4 (Faridganj), eminent journalist, freedom fighter, and former president of the Jatiya Press Club, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka on Saturday. He was 82.

Shafiqur breathed his last around 3:00pm at United Hospital in the capital. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering a heart attack at his Banani residence, family members said.
