Bogura, June 28 -- An elderly man was killed and another person seriously injured after they were attacked with sharp weapons by a man and his brother over a longstanding land dispute in Kahaloo upazila of Bogura on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Makbul Hossain, 70, son of late Hasen Ali of Bagail village under Paikar Union in the upazila.

According to local sources, a long-running dispute over land had been ongoing between Makbul Hossain's family and his grandson-in-law, Shakil.

As the dispute escalated on Sunday around 3 pm, Shakil and his younger brother, Sabuj, allegedly attacked Makbul with sharp weapons.

Shahidul Islam, Shakil's father-in-law, was also seriously injured while trying to save the elderly man.
