Dhaka, April 19 -- A total of 24 temporary cattle markets are to be established across the capital ahead of Eid ul Azha, one of the largest religious festivals for Muslims, expected to be observed on May 27 or 28 depending on moon sighting.
To meet the growing demand for sacrificial animals, the two city corporations of Dhaka have already begun preparations. Of the 24 temporary markets, 12 will be set up under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and another 12 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
In addition to these, two permanent cattle markets-Gabtoli (under DNCC) and Sarulia (under DSCC)-operate year-round. Altogether, residents will have access to 26 markets to purchase sacrificial animals this year.
