, Aug. 9 -- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Saturday said the Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold the next national election within a short timeframe despite various challenges.

He said this while speaking at a views-exchange meeting on the national election at the Commission's Rangpur regional office.

"Restoring public trust in the election system is now a major challenge. People have lost confidence in the system. Bringing them back to the polling centres will be a big task," he said.

CEC awaits govt letter over election timeframe

The CEC said the election schedule is unlikely to be announced immediately.

"The election date will be disclosed two months before the schedule is announced," he said.
