Dhaka, Aug. 29 -- Dr Niaz Abdur Rahman, a pioneer of modern retinal surgery in Bangladesh and a prominent ophthalmologist, has received the APVRS 2026 Distinguished Service Award from the Asia Pacific Vitreo Retina Society (APVRS), one of the leading professional organisations in the Asia-Pacific region.

He received the award in recognition of his long-standing contributions to the treatment of vitreoretinal diseases, professional leadership and his role in advancing retinal care in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The award was presented at a special ceremony during the APVRS 2026 Gold Coast Congress in Gold Coast, Australia, on Friday (August 28).
