Dhaka, April 5 -- The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted coordinated eviction drives across Dhaka city on Sunday, fining Tk 3.33 lakh and sentencing nine people to different terms of imprisonment.

During the daylong drives, illegal encroachments on footpaths and roads were removed, fines were realised, goods were seized and legal action was taken against violators, said Arifa Akhtar Preeti, Assistant Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP.

According to Traffic Lalbagh Division sources, several establishments and one individual were fined Tk 17,000, while three people were arrested in drives conducted in North South Road, Bangshal and Nayabazar areas under Kotwali Traffic Zone.
