Sylhet, June 19 -- The body of a Bangladeshi youth was found hanging from a tree inside Indian territory along Utmachhara border in Sylhet's Companiganj upazila on Thursday, triggering panic and concern in the border area.

The deceased was identified as Zakaria, 23, son of Alauddin of Lamagram village in North Ranikhai Union of Companiganj upazila.

Locals spotted the body hanging from a tree branch near Indian Pillar 1257, close to the main border pillar, early Thursday morning, Lt Col Nazmul Haque, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 48.

"We have advised the family to file a general diary (GD). Whether it was suicide or a case of murder is a matter of investigation," he said.
