, Sept. 2 -- The Internal Resources Division (IRD) has suspended Assistant Tax Commissioner Jannatul Ferdous for allegedly accepting a bribe of Tk38 lakh in exchange for handing over sensitive income tax records.

According to an IRD order issued on Monday, Jannatul Ferdous, posted at Tax Zone-5 in Dhaka, was found to have received the money from Salah Uddin Ahmed's nominated representative - a tax lawyer - to release a significant portion of the taxpayer's previous income tax documents.

The documents reportedly handed over include old income tax returns, order sheets, assessment orders, appellate tribunal rulings, and other key records.
