Sylhet, Aug. 22 -- A case has been filed against 92 named activists of the Awami League on Friday night, whose activities are banned, under the Special Powers Act in Bishwanath upazila of Sylhet.

Another 60 to 70 people have been accused anonymously in the case, while police have arrested an AL leader in connection with it.

The arrested person was identified as Abdul Qayyum, 40, joint general secretary of the banned Awami League's Ward No. 1 unit in Bishwanath municipality.

BNP leader Iron Mia, 55, vice-president of the party's Alankari Union unit, filed the case with Bishwanath Police Station under Sections 15(3) and 25D of the Special Powers Act, 1974.

Police later conducted a raid and arrested Qayyum from his home.
