, Oct. 26 -- A Barishal tribunal on Sunday convicted four people and sentenced them to death for violating an 18-year-old girl in 2016.

Judge of Barishal Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Rakibul Islam handed down the punishment.

The condemned convicts are-Russel Gazi, Rajib Jomaddar, Md Zahid and Khokon Khan of Barishal city. Among them, Khokon tried in absentia.

The court also fined Tk one lakh each.

According to the prosecution, the convicts kept the girl hostage when she was going to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital with Tk one lakh by an auto-rickshaw on November 10, 2016.

When the girl screamed for help, they beat her up mercilessly.
