NEW DELHI, Oct. 31 -- At least four people were killed and two others injured in a devastating fire at a shoe factory in Delhi's Mangolpuri Industrial Area on Friday night, police said Saturday.

According to police, six workers were rescued from inside the footwear manufacturing unit in an unconscious condition and rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival. The remaining two are currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary investigations by fire officials indicated that the blaze originated in the building's basement, causing heavy smoke to engulf the structure and trap workers on upper floors.
