, July 8 -- Two children were killed in separate landslides in Chattogram city and Sitakunda upazila on Wednesday amid continuous heavy rainfall.

Sumaiya Akter, 12, a resident of Mayor Goli under Sholokbbahar ward, was killed when a chunk of mud collapsed on a house at the foot of a hill around 1 pm, leaving her trapped.

Sub-Inspector Riazul Saleheen of Panchlaish Police Station said six houses were built at the base of the hill in Muktijoddha Colony and earth from the hill collapsed onto two of the houses.

A team of Chattogram Fire Service and local people carried out a rescue operation and recscued the girl.

She was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
