Natore, Oct. 20 -- At least 14 people were killed and around 30 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a sand-laden truck in Baraigram upazila of Natore early Tuesday.

The accident occurred before dawn, around 4:30am, in the Sarkarpara area on the Natore-Pabna highway. Nine people died on the spot, while five others died after being taken to hospital.

The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be ascertained.

DC of Natore district Mst Shumoni Aktar confirmed the number of casualties.

The injured were rescued and taken to various local clinics and hospitals, Natore Sadar Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Several of them were reported to be in critical condition.
