120 killed in CHT infighting over past year, seminar told
Dhaka, Aug. 12 -- At least 120 people - members of both Bangalee and ethnic minority communities - were killed in infighting between extremist outfits United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS) over the past one year, Lt (retd) Saifullah Khan Saif, president of the Ex-Forces Association, said at a seminar on Wednesday.
He made the disclosure while presenting data at the seminar titled "Restoring Peace and Sovereignty in the Chittagong Hill Tracts" held at the Jatiya Press Club.
Saif said 96 incidents of gunfire linked to internal rivalry among hill groups took place in the region over the past year, with around 21,000 rounds exchanged between the warring factions, resulting in the reported...
