India, Oct. 13 -- The car drove past the dusty, narrow streets of Barwara-a remote village two hours away from Jaipur, up to the ironclad gates of Six Senses Fort Barwara. At the entrance, two folk musicians greeted us with their rendition of Padharo Mhare Des. It was a warm morning. The sun shone brightly, casting the fort's grey stone structure into a sharp silhouette. As we walked up a steep stone staircase towards the reception, we were inundated with a rose petal shower-their scent instantly refreshing us and a gesture that left us with a smile.
