India, Oct. 12 -- Move aside ice cream, frozen yogurt (or better known as froyo) is currently in the spotlight again in Singapore.

Froyo has seen an uptick in demand here, especially with the addition of popular brands such as Australia's Yo-Chi and South Korea's Yoajung.

This humble dessert was first introduced in the 1970s by a Massachusetts-based dairy company. Back then, the health-conscious trend helped to boost its popularity, being advertised as a lighter alternative to ice cream. The froyo trend returned in the 2000s thanks to the opening of Los Angeles' froyo chain Pinkberry.
