India, July 1 -- Serena Williams faced questions over a possible Wimbledon fine after she did not attend her scheduled post-match media commitments following her opening-round defeat to Australia's Maya Joint. The 44-year-old was beaten 6-3, 6-7 (8-6), 6-3 on Tuesday in her first Grand Slam singles appearance in four years.

Despite skipping the post-match press conference, Serena will not face any disciplinary action from Wimbledon. The 23-time Grand Slam champion pushed Joint to three sets under the Centre Court roof but was unable to mark her long-awaited return with a victory.
