India, Sept. 2 -- A Millville woman died on 14 February when her car swerved into the wrong lanes of Route 55 and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, New Jersey State Police said. Maria Ortiz, 55, was driving north near milepost 25.7 when her Chevrolet Malibu crossed into the southbound carriageway and struck a BMW, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while two occupants of the other car were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

The collision was the latest in a run of serious wrecks on the same stretch of highway, where drivers, officials and road-safety campaigners have long questioned why relatively routine mistakes so often turn fatal.

Why Was This Crash Part Of A Wider Pattern In Millville?
