India, May 17 -- The Supreme Court witnessed sharp exchanges on Friday after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant made strong remarks against certain lawyers, social media activists and individuals allegedly targeting the judiciary.

During a hearing linked to senior advocate designations in the Delhi High Court, the CJI warned against attempts to misuse the legal profession and even raised concerns over the authenticity of some law degrees held by Delhi-based advocates.

His observations on "parasites," "cockroaches," fake LL.B degrees and online attacks on judges have now triggered a wider debate across legal and political circles.
